The VW Atlas three-row SUV offers great seating and cargo space in a very affordable package. This is a great choice for families but also makes it a fun way to travel with friends or as a couple.

Although the Volkswagen Atlas is a bit out of date, it's still a well-built SUV for families that is easy to drive. The model offers a range in trims as well as a host of technology features to make it suitable for modern drivers.
The V6 standard engine makes a lot of power and comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Although it may not be as fast as some of its rivals it will get your whereabouts with relative ease.
While it doesn't have the best fuel economy, it's comparable to the base SUVs made by Honda and Kia. It can get 20 mpg inside the city and 25 on the highway. This isn't too bad.

It is comfortable inside, with quiet controls and a pleasant cabin. The third-row seats offer enough leg room and shoulder room for adult occupants, and there's an available reclining rear seat with an ottoman that lets you store items on the move.
Many driver assistance technology are available and can be very useful. The standard Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Traffic Alert warn you when vehicles are close to your blind spots, and forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking can help you avoid frontal crashes.
The infotainment systems aren't as up-to-date as those of its competitors, but they're intuitive and easy to use. The system features a head-up display and an upgradeable touchscreen. It also supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Volkswagen places safety first, and the Atlas is no exception. The standard suite contains active safety technologies such as lane departure warning, pre-collisionbraking system with pedestrian detection and adaptive cruise control with stop/go function. You can also upgrade to a satnav or heads-up system with navigation.
The turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder makes 269 horsepower and 273 lbft. It will be available with either front- or all-wheel drive and a 5,000-pound towing capability.

EPA ratings of 21/25 mpg are for front-wheel drive; 20/24 mpg is for all-wheel. While this rating is not the highest in class, it is higher than those for SUVs with four cylinder engines.
Exterior Style
The Atlas is a tall, bulky SUV with square shoulders and an upright profile. It doesn't look as sleek as the Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, or the Kia Telluride.
Price
The Atlas' starting MSRP is around $24,400 for a front-wheel-drive model with the standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder. For $1,650 more, you can get a V-6-powered version. A variety of trims allows you to personalize your Atlas to fit any driving condition.
